How a network of 980 independent publishers helps small presses sell book rights across borders
The International Alliance of Independent Publishers runs a fair called Babelica. There, publishers from many countries pitch their books to one another in five minutes each. The Alliance's director says making these exchanges formal has made them work better. The Alliance also coordinated a French edition of an African history book that is set to cost about half as much in Africa as in France.
