AMD plans $1 billion Meta investment as chip partnership expands
AMD says Meta has installed initial Helios racks for testing and plans more systems, alongside a future custom chip tailored to its computing needs.

AMD plans to invest $1 billion in Meta’s equity offering as the companies expand their computing partnership. AMD says Meta has installed an initial set of AMD Helios racks in its data centers and is testing them, with more systems planned. SiliconANGLE detailed the companies’ announcements on October 27, 2026.
The investment follows a February 24, 2026 agreement to deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct graphics processors over multiple years and product generations. Gigawatts describe the electrical power scale of that planned infrastructure, not a count of chips already installed.
Meta said the chipmakers’ investments would form part of a stock sale of up to $95 billion that it intended to launch in the near future. AMD’s $1 billion commitment is an announced purchase plan. AMD and Meta have not specified the share price, number of shares, closing date or conditions for completing that investment.
| Company | Planned investment |
|---|---|
| AMD | $1 billion |
| Nvidia | $3 billion |
| Broadcom | Participation announced; individual amount not specified |
Meta said Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom together planned to invest $5 billion. Nvidia’s commitment accompanies its own separately expanded chip partnership with Meta.

Helios combines computing and networking equipment in a rack-level system. Each rack contains 72 graphics processing units, or GPUs, based on AMD’s Instinct MI450 architecture. It also uses EPYC central processing units—general-purpose processors—and Pensando data processing units for networking.
Testing predates the investment announcement. In a July 23, 2026 update, AMD said Meta had early access to Helios and engineers from both companies were testing the platform together. AMD’s October announcement describes initial systems as installed and under test, with broader deployment still planned.
Meta also plans to adopt a custom Instinct-based accelerator, a processor tailored to its computing workloads. The February agreement identified that future chip as based on the MI450 architecture and intended for Helios systems. AMD’s October announcement still describes the custom chip as a future deployment, rather than identifying it as the chip in the racks currently under test.
In February, AMD scheduled shipments supporting the first gigawatt of deployment to begin in the second half of 2026. AMD now describes broader Helios deployment as planned for the near future; the companies have not given an exact rollout date or a completion timetable for the full 6-gigawatt plan.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said the companies were building and deploying infrastructure at gigawatt scale while shaping future chips, software and systems for Meta’s superintelligence (SI) models and services. Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said AMD was helping supply computing power for its most advanced models and that Meta’s investments were intended to bring personal SI to users.
AMD plans to use technical data gathered through the partnership to improve future chip and rack designs. The company says work with Meta is already informing its planned Instinct MI500 processors and next-generation rack systems, connecting Meta’s deployment experience to AMD’s future hardware.
