An Armath engineering workshop opened in Ranya, Iraqi Kurdistan, on 22 October 2026, giving local teenagers a place to learn through an Armenian-developed education program. Public Radio of Armenia said in its November 4 report that Ranya is the program’s 18th workshop abroad.
Armath was developed in Armenia to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics through practical work, including making, design and programming. In Armenian public schools, around 642 workshops provide free education to approximately 17,000 students.
Armenia’s Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE) and Iraq’s Raparin Regional Development Agency established the Ranya workshop together, with support from Armenia’s Consulate General in Erbil. A new team of local instructors completed a week of theoretical and practical training in programming and robotics, led by Armath instructor Armen Mkhoyan.
UATE Executive Director Edita Ghazaryan said the program’s expansion showed that its Armenian education model was competitive and in demand worldwide. She said the goal was to help create a generation that develops modern technologies as well as uses them.
Local enrollment procedures, eligibility rules, fees and funding commitments for the Ranya workshop have not been specified. The free education described for Armenian public schools does not establish the terms in Ranya.
Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said further Armath branches would open in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja and other areas. He did not give implementation dates.
