Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan dismissed a reported threat to suspend the Eurasian Economic Union treaty’s application to Armenia, saying member states lack a legal framework to expel a country, Hetq reported on October 22, 2026.
Armenia belongs to the regional trade bloc alongside Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. According to Hetq, a joint report by those four partners hinted at possible suspension of the treaty’s application to Armenia. That is a reported possibility, not an adopted suspension.
Suspending a treaty’s application is distinct from expelling a member. Pashinyan’s statement concerned expulsion; the possibility described by Hetq concerned suspension of the treaty’s application to Armenia.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Pashinyan also said Armenia was committed to diversifying its international relations. He said his administration supported a civil society legislative initiative exploring a future path toward European Union membership.
