Armenia’s Food Safety Inspectorate has suspended production of one Igit LLC product at the company’s dairy facility at Azatan 54/6 in Shirak province. The order names a milk-containing product made with a milk-fat substitute using Chanakh cheese technology—not simply Chanakh cheese.
In its notice reproduced by Civic.am on October 27, 2026, the inspectorate said an inspection found violations of Armenia’s Law on Food Safety. A product sample submitted for laboratory testing failed the indicator labelled “ԱՑԽՄ” and did not meet legally required food-safety and hygiene standards. The inspectorate’s head then ordered the production suspension.
Coliform bacteria are used as an indicator of sanitary quality in food, milk and water. Their presence can suggest that other disease-causing organisms may be present, but does not itself identify a particular pathogen.
An earlier inspectorate action at Igit’s Azatan facility concerned 2.5% matsun, a fermented milk product. The regulator said a sample failed milk-fat composition requirements and suspended that production activity. It also ordered the producer to stop selling the batch, recall it and destroy or otherwise dispose of it.
The inspectorate later lifted the matsun suspension after laboratory testing confirmed that the violations had been corrected and the product met milk and dairy-product safety requirements.
The October 27 notice suspends only production of the named Chanakh-technology product, rather than the entire dairy facility. It announces no consumer recall and reports no illnesses.
The inspectorate gives no correction deadline, follow-up testing schedule or reopening date in the notice. Its order requires production of this product to remain suspended until Igit corrects the identified violations.
