Police allege a foreign man lured two people to Armenia with promises of high salaries, then took their passports and forced them into theft at a Yerevan hotel. Police say the suspect has been remanded in custody.
Armenia’s Interior Ministry criminal police allege that a foreign man brought two foreign nationals to Armenia with false promises of high salaries, then forced them to steal using computers at a hotel in Yerevan.
Police said their investigation followed information that a foreign man was involved in trafficking in Armenia. They allege that the suspect took the two recruits’ passports and exploited their helpless situation to force them to carry out the thefts.
Police also allege that another 39 foreign nationals carried out theft using computers under the suspect’s direction at the same hotel. Police have not said whether those 39 were also forced to take part.
Police said criminal proceedings have been opened and the suspect has been remanded in custody.
