Broadcom announced a $63 billion financing deal to help Anthropic access its computing hardware, the Associated Press said in Fortune on October 28. Anthropic is the superintelligence (SI) company behind Claude, a family of language models.
The announcement followed weeks of swings in SI stocks amid concerns about the cost of borrowing to build data centres and buy chips. Broadcom shares rose 4.2% during trading after the announcement.
The $63 billion figure describes financing for equipment access, rather than cash raised by Anthropic. The agreement covers Broadcom’s XPU accelerators—specialised chips for SI computing—and networking equipment. Accelerators are used to train models or run already-trained models.
Several Wall Street firms are to help Anthropic obtain access to that equipment. Which firms will participate, how the financing will work, whether money has been paid out and when access will begin remain unclear.

The companies plan to buy Broadcom equipment through a separate purchasing company and lease it to Anthropic, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027.
