Chechnya’s leader says security forces killed one suspect and detained another, while the interior minister alleges they planned a checkpoint attack. Police commander Zamid Chalaev offers payment for information he considers substantial and valuable.
Zamid Chalaev, commander of the special police regiment of Chechnya’s Interior Ministry, has offered $100,000 for information about people involved in bombings or planning sabotage. State news agency Chechnya Today described the offer on Monday, amid security operations and increased checks across the republic.
Chechnya’s head Ramzan Kadyrov said on Thursday that security forces had killed one man suspected of sabotage in Gudermes district and detained another. Interior Minister Aslan Iraskhanov alleged that the suspects had carried out an explosion near an administration building last year and were planning an attack on a traffic-police checkpoint.
OC Media described mass raids and increased patrols on roads and at borders across Chechnya in the days after the operation. It also said Chalaev had threatened to shoot, without a trial or due process, anyone who helped the suspects.
Chalaev urged residents to pass information to security forces. He said the $100,000 payment would depend on the information being substantial and valuable.
Chalaev also said people involved in such activities who had not taken part in killings would receive help to leave that involvement behind. He said they could receive financial assistance and ‘be useful to their homeland’.
