China’s Chengdu Intermediate People’s Court sentenced former securities-regulator anti-graft official Wang Huimin to death with a two-year reprieve on October 27, 2026, for accepting more than 436 million yuan in bribes, state-run Xinhua said. The sentence suspends execution rather than ordering it immediately.
Wang formerly led the disciplinary inspection and supervision team at the China Securities Regulatory Commission. The first-instance judgment followed his public trial on July 17, 2026.
The court found that Wang used his posts and influence between 1998 and 2025 to help companies and individuals with business operations and fundraising. He received the bribes directly or through others. His positions included president and Party secretary of China Construction Bank’s Xinjiang branch, assistant to the Xinjiang regional government’s chairman, head of its financial affairs office and disciplinary leadership roles at the securities regulator.
OCCRP, in its October 28 account citing Xinhua, put Wang’s age at 67 and gave the bribe total’s dollar equivalent as $65.4 million.
The court said the scale of the bribery and the especially serious losses to state and public interests warranted a death sentence. In suspending execution, it cited the fact that some bribery offenses were attempted rather than completed, Wang’s truthful confession and his disclosure of some bribes investigators had not known about. It also cited his admission of guilt and remorse, and the partial recovery of the bribe money.
The judgment also strips Wang of political rights for life and orders the confiscation of all his personal property. Recovered bribery proceeds and their returns must go to the state treasury, with recovery of the outstanding amount to continue.
OCCRP described the two-year reprieve as followed by automatic commutation to life imprisonment under Chinese law. Xinhua’s account specifies that, once Wang’s sentence is reduced to life imprisonment in accordance with law after the reprieve, he must remain imprisoned for life without further sentence reductions or parole.
