DoorDash plans to buy Instacart in reported $17 billion deal
The reported agreement would unite the two largest US grocery-delivery services, with competition scrutiny a potential obstacle to completing the purchase.

DoorDash has agreed to acquire rival Instacart in a deal valued at $17 billion, Engadget said on October 29. If completed, the purchase would combine what the publication describes as the two largest grocery-delivery services in the US.
DoorDash already delivers groceries alongside the restaurant and takeout services through which it gained popularity. Engadget said integrating Instacart’s network could strengthen DoorDash’s existing shopping services.
The companies previously held acquisition talks in 2021 at a higher valuation for Instacart, Engadget said. Those negotiations reportedly ended over concerns about price and possible antitrust regulation. More recently, reports cited by Engadget suggested that Instacart was exploring a sale; Uber was also reportedly considered a potential buyer.
The agreement does not complete the takeover. Engadget said antitrust scrutiny—review of whether a deal would harm competition—could still prevent the purchase from going ahead.
