The Chonburi plant in Thailand began production on 29 October, GAC said. It plans annual capacity of 7,000 battery packs in phase one; a possible second phase could raise that to 20,000.
Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) said in its November 3 statement that its first overseas plant for self-developed battery packs began production in Thailand’s Chonburi province on 29 October. The plant adds local battery-pack production to GAC’s existing Thai vehicle assembly operations.
GAC Aion, the group’s electric vehicle manufacturing subsidiary, entered Thailand in September 2023 with the right-hand-drive Aion Y Plus. It began assembling electric cars there in July 2024.
GAC’s battery unit INPOW operates the new plant, which will supply packs for locally produced Aion Y Plus vehicles, the company said in the statement carried by CNA.
