A 21-year-old German national has been extradited to Germany and placed in pre-trial detention over allegations that he attempted to join Islamic State abroad. DW reported that news agency dpa cited a Federal Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman confirming that an arrest warrant had been executed.
The extradition follows his reported arrest in Pakistan in February 2025, according to DW.
Prosecutors allege that he travelled from Berlin to Ethiopia in January 2025 intending to join Islamic State in Somalia. They say he never reached Somalia and instead travelled to Pakistan to join the group.
Prosecutors accuse him of attempted membership in a foreign terrorist organisation and preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state. He is being held in Germany pending trial.
