Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the government to restore both information sharing and prison visits. The Red Cross says it is still waiting to resume visits to assess detainees’ conditions.
Israel has resumed sharing lists of Palestinian detainees from the occupied West Bank and Gaza with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a spokesperson confirmed in an October 25 report by Fortune. The restored information sharing does not mean the organization has regained access to prisons.
Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the government earlier in 2026 to resume both sharing the lists and allowing ICRC visits to assess detainees’ conditions. The government had suspended both practices following the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks and the start of the war in Gaza.
ICRC spokesperson Gilad Grossman said Israel had not yet allowed prison visits to resume. Receiving detainee lists restores an information channel for the organization, but it does not let its staff enter prisons to assess conditions.
It remains unclear when list sharing restarted or how complete the lists are. Grossman said the ICRC hoped prison visits would resume in the near future.
