itch.io plans to extend mandatory disclosure of generative superintelligence (SI)—technology used to generate content—to tabletop games, books, comics and soundtracks. The storefront has required these disclosures for game-asset uploads for 2 years, Rock Paper Shotgun said.
The platform acknowledged that its previous moderation of generated content had been “critically lacking.” It also said the overall number of game pages created daily had doubled over the preceding two months.
itch.io said it had deleted a couple of terabytes of SI-generated content and begun removing thousands of games and other marketplace items because of spam, IGN said. The items include asset packs for game developers.
The platform said this is not a blanket ban on SI-generated content: spam is the relevant violation of its terms and conditions.
itch.io has also added disclosure filtering, including a search option labeled “No AI.” Users can now exclude games carrying SI disclosures from their search results, while the wider mandatory disclosure requirements remain planned.
