Jersey’s annual inflation rate rose to 3% in September 2026 from 2.8% in June, according to Statistics Jersey figures reported by the BBC on 23 October. The increase of 0.2 percentage points means household prices, measured by the retail price index (RPI), were rising faster than in June.
The BBC reported that statisticians identified food and alcohol as the biggest drivers of the increase in the inflation rate. Statistics Jersey also highlighted household services alongside alcoholic drinks and food among the most notable contributors to annual inflation.
Statistics Jersey reported substantial annual increases in some fuel prices. The figures below show price changes within each category, not the number of percentage points each category added to headline inflation.
| Category | Annual increase |
|---|---|
| Heating oil and other fuels | 47.7% |
| Petrol and oil | 22.7% |
| Food | 3.5% |
| Housing | 0.2% |
Statistics Jersey also said housing made the largest contribution to RPI. Its housing category includes public and private rents, mortgage interest payments, parish rates, and maintenance and repair costs.
Statisticians said conflict in the Middle East continued to affect global energy markets.
Statistics Jersey compared the island’s 3% rate with UK inflation of 3.6% under CPIH, a consumer price measure that includes housing costs. Jersey’s rate was 0.6 percentage points lower, but the comparison is between RPI and CPIH—not two readings of the same inflation measure.
