Major League Soccer: Nashville beats Montréal 2–0 to win Supporters’ Shield

Nashville SC clinched its first Major League Soccer (MLS) Supporters’ Shield with a 2–0 win at CF Montréal on October 24, 2026, ESPN said. The victory secured home-field advantage throughout the MLS Cup playoffs and qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The Shield goes to the club with the most points across MLS’s 34-game regular season. Nashville joined the league in 2020 and won its first trophy, the US Open Cup, in 2025. The Shield is its second trophy.

Surridge and Mukhtar score the decisive goals

Sam Surridge opened the scoring in the 51st minute, finishing at the second attempt after his initial header was saved. Captain Hany Mukhtar added the second in the 76th minute, taking advantage of a defensive giveaway and sliding in to finish low into the net. The defeat eliminated Montréal from playoff contention.

Nashville reached 70 points from 31 games, leaving its overall lead unassailable. Its closest challengers, Vancouver Whitecaps and Inter Miami, were both 15 points behind with four games remaining—enough to earn only 12 more points.

Home advantage secured, points record still within reach

Nashville will enter the playoffs with home-field advantage as the only MLS team unbeaten at home in 2026. It has also tied the league records for home wins, with 14, and consecutive home wins, with 10.

The league points record still belongs to Inter Miami, which earned 74 in its 2024 Shield-winning season. Nashville has three regular-season games remaining and could yet surpass that total before turning to the playoffs.
