France’s Culture Ministry has announced security closures of the Louvre and three other Paris museums for Saturday, October 24, when demonstrations are planned, The Art Newspaper reports. Several city museums and private art institutions will also close, with the Cartier Foundation’s closure extending across the whole weekend.
The decisions follow looting and vandalism in several French cities on the sidelines of the previous weekend’s protests, according to the report. Those demonstrations concerned the cost of living and support for high school students. The museum closures are precautions against possible further unrest.
