Serbia’s Republic Election Commission put the Student List ahead with 52.54% of the vote on October 26, after processing 8,077 of 8,392 polling stations from the October 25 parliamentary election. France 24 later reported that the student-backed movement had secured 138 seats—enough for a majority in the 250-seat National Assembly if confirmed.
The earlier figures, published by Al Jazeera on October 26, projected 140 seats for the Student List and 103 for United Serbia, the list led by former president Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party. Those projections were not a final seat allocation.
France 24 published different vote shares and a lower Student List seat total on October 26. Its reported 138 seats would remain above the 126 needed for a majority, allowing the movement to form a government without coalition partners.

The Student List grew out of protests after a railway-station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad in November 2024, killing 16 people. Demands for accountability grew into protests against alleged corruption and the government’s handling of the disaster. The snap election challenged the Serbian Progressive Party, which had governed since 2012; Vučić resigned as president in September 2026 to campaign for prime minister.
During voting, independent watchdog CRTA said it had seen a large number of irregularities and a rise in violent incidents outside polling stations. Vučić and his party have denied wrongdoing and allegations of electoral manipulation.
Analysis
Al Jazeera said in its October 26 account that the Student List had not named a candidate for prime minister during the campaign. Once final results are announced, the new National Assembly must be established within 30 days, and a government must be formed within 90 days after that.
A separate presidential election is scheduled for December 2026.
