Democrat Sherrod Brown defeated Republican incumbent Jon Husted in Ohio’s US Senate special election, changing the seat from Republican to Democratic control. France 24 said CNN and NBC News called the race for Brown.
Husted was appointed in early 2025 to replace JD Vance after Vance became US vice president. Brown is returning after losing his previous Ohio Senate seat to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024.
Brown is to serve the final two years of Vance’s former term, which ends in January 2029. His return to the Senate depends on when Ohio certifies the election and when he is formally sworn in, Fox News said.

Republican US Representative Ashley Hinson conceded to the Democrat, who will succeed retiring Senator Joni Ernst and give his party the seat.
