Audi said on October 25 that it plans its first US production site at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Macon. The German carmaker intends to invest around $4 billion and create about 4,500 jobs. It says the plant would make premium SUVs for North American customers, with capacity for up to 200,000 vehicles a year.
At an October 24 rally in Perry, Georgia, President Donald Trump announced a $4.2 billion investment and plans to produce approximately 200,000 vehicles annually, Fox News said. Audi’s own figure is around $4 billion, and it describes the investment as a plan.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said on October 26 that Governor Brian Kemp and state economic-development commissioner Pat Wilson met Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner in Germany in February 2025, bringing plans for the Peach County site. Georgia officials visited Audi in Germany again in September, before the October announcement.
Georgia’s governor’s office says the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority, a partnership of Peach, Houston and Macon-Bibb counties, helped develop and market the site over several years. Industrial utilities are adjacent to the site, and site studies have been completed. The state says Audi cited how quickly it could open, the available workforce, access to customers and nearby automotive suppliers as reasons for choosing Georgia.
Representative Mike Collins, a Republican challenging Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, credits another piece of infrastructure. Collins said that after taking charge of a congressional water-resources panel in 2025, he secured money within about three months to dredge the Port of Brunswick—remove material from its channel to make it deeper—and that a deeper channel helps vessels carry cargo through the port and makes Georgia more attractive to automakers seeking to manufacture and export vehicles. That link to Audi’s choice is Collins’s assessment; Georgia’s account lists the reasons Audi gave without citing the dredging.
The satellite operator expects access to more than twice OneWeb’s current bandwidth in return for spending in 2027–2034, with initial IRIS² services expected from 2030.

Audi expects the proposed plant to create opportunities for regional suppliers and service businesses. Georgia Quick Start plans to develop training with local technical colleges for prospective workers; the board’s decision remains the project’s next hurdle.
