Janeese Lewis George won Washington, D.C.'s 3 November 2026, mayoral election with nearly 85% of the ranked-choice vote, District of Columbia Board of Elections data shows. In ranked-choice voting, voters can rank candidates in order of preference.
Lewis George, a city councilmember, defeated Green Party candidate Robert Gross and independent Rhonda Hamilton. She will succeed Muriel Bowser, who took office in 2015 and announced last year that she would not seek reelection.
Plans for District agencies
Lewis George promised a forensic analysis of every District agency early in her administration, examining savings and spending as well as fraud, abuse and mishandling. She said the review would help improve District government and build taxpayers' trust in how their money is handled.
