Armenia’s ministry said customs duties paid by exporters after the EU’s temporary trade measures took effect on 10 October are refundable under the applicable procedures. The preferences had not been reflected in TARIC, the EU’s integrated customs tariff system.
Businesses importing Armenian goods into Belgium alerted the ministry to the problem. The ministry said implementing the regulation in TARIC had taken time, and that it had taken steps through Armenia’s representation to the EU to resolve the issue.
What the preferences cover
The European Commission says the measures temporarily liberalize almost 80% of Armenian exports to the EU. They include almost all exports of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers affected by Russian restrictions, as well as over 91% of exports of beverages and spirits.
The EU announced the preferences on 9 October to support Armenian producers and exporters after Russia imposed trade restrictions. The measures run for 2 years from 10 October.
Correction and refunds
The ministry scheduled the full reflection of the preferences in TARIC for 22:00 Yerevan time on 3 November. It did not specify how exporters should apply for refunds or provide a complete list of eligible products.
