Cadillac sits last without a win or point in its debut season, and retaining Pérez gives the team a confirmed driver for 2027 and beyond as it seeks better results.

Cadillac announced on 28 October 2026 that it had extended Sergio Pérez’s Formula 1 contract through at least 2029, Motorsport Week said. The deal keeps a driver in place beyond the team’s first season, while Cadillac remains last in the championship without a win or a point. Pérez’s best finish so far in 2026 is 14th.
Pérez said he believed in joining the new team from the start and that building it takes time, work and patience. He said much work remained and that he was fully committed for the next three years. Dan Towriss, Cadillac’s CEO, said retaining Pérez’s talent and leadership gives the team continuity as it tries to move up the standings. Neither the contract nor that aim settles whether Cadillac will score points this season.
Formula 1 and General Motors agreed in principle in 2024 to add Cadillac as the championship’s 11th team. Cadillac received approval for a 2026 entry in 2025 and named Pérez and Valtteri Bottas as its first race drivers that year. The General Motors-owned team made its debut in 2026.
Pérez won six Formula 1 Grands Prix across spells with Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull. He and Red Bull agreed to end his contract after a winless 2024 season, and he returned to racing with Cadillac in 2026.
Analysis
Pérez’s extension confirms one Cadillac driver for 2027, but not the other. Bottas signed a multi-year deal, yet Formula 1’s analysis said Cadillac had not committed to exercising the option that would keep him in a race seat next year. The analysis said Bottas remained favourite and Cadillac was in no rush to decide, while identifying test driver Colton Herta as a possible replacement if the team does not retain Bottas. Herta still needs one point for the super licence required to race in Formula 1, which he could earn by completing at least 100 kilometres in another first practice session. The analysis said its sources expected him to drive in first practice in Mexico to seek that final point.

Mercedes’ one-stop strategy kept Antonelli ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, but the championship remains undecided heading to the Mexican Grand Prix.
