MSC Cruises canceled MSC Poesia’s 11-night Caribbean voyage on 3 November after the US Coast Guard detained the ship at PortMiami. The company said it could not resolve a regulatory matter in time for the sailing to proceed.
The Panama-flagged ship, part of MSC Cruises’ Musica class, had been scheduled to depart on 1 November, but remained docked with passengers aboard after the Coast Guard detained it during what the agency described as an expanded examination, gCaptain said.
The canceled voyage was scheduled to visit Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Belize before returning to Miami on 12 November. The Panama-flagged Musica-class ship underwent a major refurbishment earlier in 2026, adding Yacht Club luxury accommodations and upgrading dining and wellness facilities. The report identifies no indication that the work was connected to the detention.
Refunds and travel home
MSC said affected passengers would receive full refunds and help arranging their journeys home. Guests may remain aboard until 12:00 Miami time on 5 November (21:00 Yerevan time) while they arrange alternative travel.
What the Coast Guard is checking
The Coast Guard said its Miami personnel were checking the ship’s compliance with international standards and US regulations. Under its port-state-control program, foreign-flagged vessels visiting US ports undergo compliance examinations; serious deficiencies can result in detention until necessary corrective action is completed.
As of 3 November, neither the Coast Guard nor MSC had disclosed specific findings behind the detention or announced a timetable for the ship’s release. The vessel remained in Miami.
The next scheduled sailing is a 10-night Caribbean cruise from Miami on 12 November. As of 3 November, MSC had announced no change to that voyage.
