Football governing body Concacaf has approved Haiti’s request to host the US in Miami on November 14 for the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final, the Guardian reported on October 22. The match had been booked in Kingston, Jamaica.
Haiti has been unable to play home matches within its borders since July 2021 amid gang violence, according to the Guardian. The exceptional arrangement lets Haiti keep its designated home leg while playing inside its opponent’s country.
Concacaf said the flexibility applies to Haiti’s national team and Haiti-based clubs while the security situation persists. Each team must seek approval for every match it wants to host in an opponent’s territory. This is a separate arrangement from the neutral venues Haitian teams have previously used.
The Concacaf Council can amend or withdraw the measure at any time, the confederation said.
Nearly half a million Haitians and their descendants are concentrated in South Florida, the Guardian reports. Haiti is scheduled to face the US at Miami’s Nu Stadium on November 14, in the opening match of the home-and-away quarter-final.
