According to Discord’s announcement, Ads Manager offers forecasting tools, campaign creation with bidding tied to an advertising objective, and performance monitoring. The change is therefore both a new way to manage campaigns and a planned expansion of which businesses can buy ads.
Discord introduced advertising in 2024 with Quests, after operating without ads since its 2015 debut. Video Quests are video advertisements that users can watch to receive in-game rewards. Ars Technica reports that Discord had been showing them in browsers as a beta test, with limited testing in its mobile apps.
Discord has now named the format Video Quests Reserve and describes it as a premium, reservation-based advertising offering. The reward-for-viewing model remains central: users receive in-game rewards for watching the video ads.
The company says the format will help advertisers pursue outcomes such as impressions—the number of times an ad is displayed—and clicks. Discord also says it will add more objectives to track “soon,” without giving a specific date.
Discord says Ads Manager and the updated video ads will expand user targeting, meaning advertisers’ ability to choose which users see an ad. The reported announcement does not specify what additional user data, if any, that expansion would use. Broader self-service access also remains a plan for early 2027, rather than an option already open to all advertisers.
Reddit plans to test the change outside the US this quarter. Proposed exceptions would keep the homepage and content reached through search engines or shared links open without login.
