The Guardian’s Pushing Buttons newsletter says Electronic Arts has shut BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age that it acquired in 2007.

Electronic Arts has closed BioWare, the Canadian developer behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, The Guardian’s Pushing Buttons newsletter said on 28 October. The newsletter describes the closure as completed, saying the studio “has been shuttered by EA”.
Founded in 1995, BioWare specialized in role-playing games. It released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in 2003, and Electronic Arts acquired the studio in 2007.
In a 23 October Guardian commentary, games commentator Lucy James said Electronic Arts had announced the closure earlier that week. She said more than 400 people were losing their jobs and BioWare’s forthcoming Mass Effect game had been cancelled.
The timing of those staff departures remains unclear. James described the next Mass Effect as still years away from release before its cancellation.

The Edmonton studio, owned by Electronic Arts since 2007, confirmed on October 21 that it was closing and ending early development on its next Mass Effect game.
