UKMTO said a liquefied petroleum gas carrier was struck on 31 October 2026, about 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) south of Iran’s Lavan Island, as mediated talks continued.

A vessel carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was struck by three Iranian projectiles south of Lavan Island, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in an account published by Al Jazeera. The island lies in the Persian Gulf.
UKMTO connects merchant ships with military forces in the Arabian Sea, Red Sea and Persian Gulf, and issues maritime reports and warnings.
Al Jazeera’s November 1 account did not give the carrier’s name, casualty count or operational outcome.
The strike came during Qatar-mediated talks held in Tehran on 30 October and in Qatar on 31 October 2026. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran had reduced the proposed waiting period for partly reopening the Strait of Hormuz from seven days to two.
Iranian authorities said a deal remained possible if their demands were implemented. The partial reopening remained a proposal.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the added import cost since the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz bought no extra energy. She argues Europe should import less fuel.
