Kyle Larson won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, extending his championship lead to 73 points over Denny Hamlin with two races remaining. It was Larson’s first Cup Series victory at the track and his third win in seven races.
Larson arrived after his worst finish of the championship chase, with Christopher Bell only five points behind him. Talladega widened that narrow gap as Bell crashed early and other title contenders were caught in a later pileup.
Larson began the last lap in front, but several bumps from Austin Hill dropped him to 11th. Larson recovered to win a three-wide finish, beating Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron by a few feet. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished third, 0.066 seconds behind Larson.

The finish followed another recovery. Larson had fallen from the lead to 21st in four laps before climbing back to second by lap 184. A 15-car crash then stopped the race for 13 minutes for cleanup and sent it into overtime—extra laps beyond the scheduled distance.

The 16-year-old was sent off at Fleetwood in his second start of the season, leaving Arsenal short of wing options before Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.

Bell spun and crashed while entering the pits for his first stop on lap 56, while racing continued at full speed. Repairs left him 10 laps behind. He finished 35th and dropped to third in the championship standings.
A separate 12-car crash on lap 132 involved five championship-chase drivers, including Ryan Blaney and Tyler Reddick. The Associated Press report published by ESPN described that crash as effectively ending Blaney’s and Reddick’s championship hopes.
The series next heads to Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, November 1, for its final short-track race of the season. Larson’s rivals have that race and the season finale left to close his 73-point lead.
