Rebecca Newark wins women’s C5 kilometre gold for Great Britain, while Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl take women’s B silver, Elizabeth Jordan and Anna Whitworth Hay bronze, and Finlay Graham men’s C3 sprint bronze.
Australia’s Korey Boddington won the men’s C4 kilometre time trial on the opening day of the Para-cycling Track World Championships, ending Great Britain’s Jody Cundy’s 20-year reign. The championships opened on 29 October 2026 at Omnisport Apeldoorn in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Cundy first won the title in 2006 and defended it at the following 15 world championships. He was attempting to win it for the 17th time.
Cundy clocked 64.93 seconds and took silver after Boddington, riding last, beat his time by 2.25 seconds. The kilometre time trial is a 1,000-metre race from a standing start: riders compete against the clock, with the fastest time winning.
Cundy, 48, entered the championships with 23 track cycling world titles and 9 Paralympic titles across swimming and cycling. Before racing, he said age was catching up with him and that adding to his world titles would be hard, BBC Sport said.
Boddington had won 4 world titles at the 2025 championships in Rio de Janeiro, the Australian Cycling Team said.

Under Union Cycliste Internationale classifications, C3, C4 and C5 riders use conventional bicycles, adapted where necessary. The classes reflect impairment type and severity, with lower numbers indicating greater impairment. B events pair a blind or visually impaired rider with a sighted pilot at the front of a tandem—the role Holl and Whitworth Hay filled.
The Australian Cycling Team’s programme lists the men’s C4 sprint, men’s C3 kilometre time trial and women’s C5 elimination race for 30 October. The championships are scheduled to conclude on 1 November 2026.
