His 6-4 7-5 victory over Tallon Griekspoor in Vienna guarantees that he will replace Jannik Sinner at the top of the men’s rankings.

Alexander Zverev beat Tallon Griekspoor 6-4 7-5 to reach the Erste Bank Open quarter-finals in Vienna. The victory guarantees that the German will replace Jannik Sinner as men’s tennis world No. 1 on 2 November 2026, BBC Sport said.
Zverev had already secured the 2026 year-end No. 1 finish when Carlos Alcaraz lost in Shanghai on 12 October. The Vienna win settles when his first spell at the top will begin; Sinner remains the official No. 1 until 2 November.
Zverev’s 2026 season includes 2 major titles, at the French Open and US Open.
I’m super happy, super thrilled - I have no words for this year.
On 2 November, Zverev’s arrival at No. 1 will bring the number of men to have held the ATP ranking to 30. He will be the second German after Boris Becker, who first reached the position in 1991.

Chima Moneke scores 15 points as Zvezda moves to 6–3 and Bayern falls to 2–7.
