Canada’s government has announced an additional $2,815,000 for Rugby Canada through Sport Canada’s Sport Support Program, raising its allocation to $4,975,000 for 2026/27. Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden announced the increase, which Rugby Canada says it plans to use for player development, youth rugby and hosting more high-profile matches.
The increase follows years of largely unchanged funding for Canadian sporting bodies since 2005, RugbyPass reported. In its Spring Economic Update, the federal government said it intended to invest $1 billion in sport across the country.
The announcement came at halftime of Canada’s 31–22 women’s rugby win over England at Ottawa’s TD Place stadium, the Canadian team’s second consecutive victory over England.
