Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said early on 2 November 2026, that its mobile app had suffered a “massive cyberattack” that spread “false information.” The ministry acknowledged the attack on Telegram, Al Jazeera said.
Kommersant said app users received false push notifications—messages delivered directly to their devices—claiming nuclear warheads had been launched at all Russian regions. Compromised ministry and regional operational-headquarters channels on Max and Telegram also distributed the messages, the newspaper said.
The ministry said specialists were fixing the vulnerability and restoring the app’s operation.
Officials said the app failed and triggered radiation warnings over Lviv-region loudspeakers. The Air Force suspected hostile interference, denied a radiation threat and directed residents to official updates after false radiation, chemical and street-fighting alerts in Kyiv.
