Samsung has launched the Galaxy W27, a China-exclusive foldable based on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, starting at CNY 18,999. Its main distinctions are its finishes, standard 16GB of RAM and Tiantong satellite communication.
The W27 continues Samsung’s practice of making a China-only version of its flagship book-style foldable, 9to5Google said on October 29. It retains the Fold’s core specifications, including an 8-inch inner screen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 200-megapixel main camera.
Two storage options, distinct finishes
Both versions include 16GB of RAM—the working memory used by running apps. Buyers choose between 512GB and 1TB of storage for files and apps.
| Storage | RAM | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 512GB | 16GB | CNY 18,999 |
| 1TB | 16GB | CNY 21,999 |
The dark-red and dark-blue versions have golden accents. Samsung markets the W27 as a high-end model for an elite audience and says its storage options serve business data needs. The box includes a Kevlar magnetic protective case, a data cable and a 45W charging adapter.
9to5Google judged the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra better value: its 1TB model costs $2,699, compared with roughly $3,300 for the 1TB W27.
Samsung says satellite calls require operator activation
Samsung says the W27’s Tiantong satellite communication supports voice calls and text messages outdoors when ground-network signals are unavailable. Enhanced hardware and optimized software algorithms enable the connection.
Buyers must activate a Tiantong operator’s service before using the feature. Availability depends on the local operator’s deployment and services, with charges set by the operator. Buyers therefore need to check local service availability and pricing before relying on satellite calls or texts.
