St Louis City won their first trophy by beating hosts Columbus Crew 5–4 on penalties in the US Open Cup football final, the Guardian reports. Neither team scored in normal time or the additional 30 minutes of extra time.
St Louis clubs had previously won ten Open Cups, most recently in 1988. City, who entered Major League Soccer in 2023, brought the city’s collective total to 11 with their first title.
Lundt entered the match after starting goalkeeper Roman Bürki was hurt in the second half. In the 69th minute, Bürki blocked a shot from Anass Zaroury and Zaroury’s knee made contact with Bürki’s head. After receiving treatment, Bürki left on a stretcher.
The Guardian, citing the CBS Sports broadcast, reported that Bürki was “OK” shortly after leaving the match and was taken to hospital for evaluation.
In the shootout, Lundt saved Columbus’s first penalty, taken by Santi Rodríguez, with his left hand. City converted all five of their attempts, with Daniel Edelman scoring the decisive fifth kick to complete the 5–4 win.
The cup victory also qualified St Louis City for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The 16-year-old was sent off at Fleetwood in his second start of the season, leaving Arsenal short of wing options before Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.
