London-based film sales company Capture has declared The Sun Never Sets, a romantic drama written and directed by Joe Swanberg, sold out internationally. Deadline detailed the completed deals on 30 October 2026.
The international sales follow theatrical releases in the US through IFC Films and in Canada through Mongrel Media.
Who bought the rights
Focus Features acquired the remaining worldwide territories, described as excluding Italy, Scandinavia, Portugal, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. The separately named buyers cover the territories below, while Cinesky’s deal covers international airline rights rather than a geographic market.
| Territory or rights | Buyer |
|---|---|
| Italy | Minerva |
| Scandinavia | NonStop |
| Portugal | NOS |
| Turkey | Chantier |
| Former Yugoslavia | Jucer |
| Middle East | Phoenicia |
| Latin America | Synapse |
| International airline rights | Cinesky |
The film and its earlier rights deal
Dakota Fanning plays Wendy, whose older, divorced boyfriend Jack, played by Jake Johnson, has children and asks for space to reassess their relationship. During their separation, Wendy reconnects with her former boyfriend Chuck, played by Cory Michael Smith, creating a love triangle.
The film had its world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival. Following that premiere, Independent Film Company and Sapan Studio announced on 4 May 2026 that they had acquired its US rights.
Distribution comes next
Ella Field, Capture’s executive vice president of international sales, said the distribution partnerships, including Focus Features across multiple territories, closed a campaign she described as hugely successful.
The sales announcement gives no release dates for the newly acquired territories or financial terms for the deals. Universal Pictures International is set to handle international distribution for Focus Features, which acquired the rights.
