Tajikistan’s National Academy of Sciences and the Department of Science and Technology of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have agreed to construct and commission a laboratory at the Central Asian Research Center for Ecology and Environment in Dushanbe.
The center belongs to the Tajik academy and was a focus of talks on expanding scientific cooperation with the Xinjiang department. Eurasianet said the institutions signed an agreement; the center’s account describes an agreement reached during the meeting.
Research plans and next steps
The center’s account places the meeting on 27 October at the academy, without specifying the year. Academy President Khushvakhtzoda Qobiljon Khushvakht met Xu Husheng, the Xinjiang department’s deputy director-general.
The center said the laboratory is intended to strengthen its research facilities and support ecology and environmental-protection research through laboratory examinations and analysis. The parties also discussed joint research on environmental protection, climate change, environmental monitoring and natural-resource use, as well as the introduction of modern technologies.
The agreement covers construction and commissioning, but the parties have not specified a construction budget, delivery timetable or division of responsibilities.
