Australia’s Elizabeth McMillen also won the women’s half-marathon in 1:31:31, setting a national record over another newly adopted championship distance.

Australia’s Rebecca Henderson clocked 3:14:52 and Japan’s Masatora Kawano finished in 2:55:14 to set marathon race-walk world records at the All Japan Race Walking meeting in Takahata, Japan, on October 25. Henderson lowered the women’s record by 19 seconds; Kawano established the inaugural men’s mark.
The results came in the first year of a change to championship distances. World Athletics made the marathon and half-marathon official race-walking distances in January 2026, replacing the 20km and 35km events.

Henderson was making her debut over the 42.195km marathon distance. She competed in rain and walked alone for most of the race, Guardian Sport said. She won the women’s race by 14 minutes, beating the world record Italy’s Sofia Fiorini had set at the European Championships in Birmingham in August.
Kawano returned to the venue where he had set a 35km world record two years earlier. McMillen’s half-marathon victory cut almost seven minutes from her previous best and placed her fifth on the new event’s all-time list.

The appeal tribunal removed an additional suspended spectator ban, but each club must still play its next home Scottish Cup tie without fans and pay the visiting side £100,000.
