UK Maritime Trade Operations said all crew members were accounted for and no environmental damage was reported after the Persian Gulf strike. The tanker’s identity and the extent of its damage remain unknown.
Two unidentified projectiles struck the port, or left, side of a southeast-bound tanker approximately 72 nautical miles east of Ras Al Khafji, Saudi Arabia, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said. The strike occurred at 23:47 UTC on 1 November (03:47 Yerevan time on 2 November), gCaptain said.
UKMTO said all crew members were accounted for and no environmental damage was reported. It did not identify the tanker or detail the extent of its damage. Whether anyone was injured, who was responsible and whether the tanker continued its voyage remain unknown.
UKMTO connects merchant ships with military forces in the Arabian Sea, Red Sea and Persian Gulf and publishes maritime reports and warnings.
Earlier on 1 November, a merchant ship’s master said another vessel had broadcast a Mayday distress call after reportedly being struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. UKMTO issued a separate warning for that incident, which occurred at 15:09 UTC (19:09 Yerevan time).
The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) had recorded 18 confirmed attacks in the strait since 6 October in its November 1 assessment. That count preceded the inclusion of the two latest UKMTO warnings.
