UFC has booked Carlos Prates and Michael Morales to contest its interim welterweight title at UFC 336 in Toronto on January 30, 2027. ESPN said the mixed martial arts promotion announced the fight on October 24. The interim belt puts a championship at stake in the 170-pound division while undisputed champion Islam Makhachev cannot defend his title.
UFC said Makhachev had been expected to defend his belt at the event but is unavailable. The reason for his January unavailability is unclear. ESPN said he will subsequently observe Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, beginning in February, pushing his expected return to at least May 2027.
