The UN-commissioned Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory accused Israel on October 26 of continuing genocide in Gaza during the ceasefire. It said Israel continued acts intended to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, in whole or in part. These are investigative findings, not a court verdict.
The ceasefire was signed in October 2025 and scaled down the war that began with the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The commission estimated that Israeli forces expanded their control from 53% of Gaza to at least 60% during the ceasefire. It said Israeli fire across the advancing front killed at least 196 Palestinians in that period, including 18 women, 32 boys and 11 girls.
The commission also accused Israeli soldiers and prison guards of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank. Those allegations include extermination, torture, rape, other sexual violence and persecution against civilians.
Separately, the commission said it had recently documented six cases of sexual violence by Israeli guards against male detainees from Gaza at Sde Teiman military prison.
The Associated Press could not independently corroborate multiple accounts in the report of sexual assaults by prison guards and soldiers against Palestinian detainees since October 2023.
Israel denies accusations of genocide in Gaza and sexual assault by its forces. Responding to the findings, Israel’s mission in Geneva called for the commission to be dissolved. The mission said the report was part of a misinformation campaign to demonize Israel and portray its existence as criminal.

Israel’s UN ambassador rejects the commission’s conclusion that Israeli authorities and forces continued genocidal acts against Palestinians after the October 2025 ceasefire.
