Bayern Munich says head coach Vincent Kompany remains in hospital undergoing examinations after collapsing while observing the reserve team’s training session on 23 October. On 24 October, sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany was in a stable condition and his absence would last weeks rather than days.
Kompany had been nursing a virus but was on the touchline for Bayern’s 2–2 home draw against Arsenal in the Champions League on 21 October. After his collapse, Bayern placed all training and match-related operations in the hands of his coaching staff.
Eberl said examinations were continuing to establish the nature of Kompany’s condition, with no precise recovery timetable determined. Kompany remains in hospital receiving treatment for a virus; the cause of his collapse has not been established.
Eberl said Kompany would receive all the recovery time he needed, reiterating Bayern’s commitment to provide medical care and support. He stressed that the club was planning for an absence measured in weeks.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks said the coaching staff would work together to manage football operations. He had spoken briefly with Kompany on 23 October to check on his health, without discussing football.
Bayern’s reserve-team match was postponed on 23 October after the collapse. Eberl said the club had not considered seeking a postponement of the first team’s next match.
Bayern lead the Bundesliga going into the weekend. Danks will take charge of their league match away at Freiburg on 25 October.

The 16-year-old was sent off at Fleetwood in his second start of the season, leaving Arsenal short of wing options before Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.
