Armenia’s nine-member team finished the 2026 under-19 World Boxing Championships with one bronze medal, earned by Artem Stepanyan in the men’s 70 kg division. The championships concluded on October 27 in Budva, Montenegro.
The team entered Budva after taking one bronze at the European U19 championships in August 2026. At the 2025 European championships in Yerevan, Armenia had won medals in all 13 men’s weight categories.
Stepanyan reached the semifinals with successive victories over opponents from Latvia, Bulgaria and Russia. Ireland’s John Daniel Maher then defeated him by a 3–2 split decision: three judges favoured Maher and two favoured Stepanyan. The result sent Maher into the final and left Stepanyan with bronze.
Maher went on to beat Kazakhstan’s Bibars Ashirbay by unanimous decision, meaning all judges agreed on the winner, to take the 70 kg title. Uzbekistan’s Zulfikor Adhamjonov earned the other bronze medal in the division.

Russia’s five titles came from three women’s divisions and two men’s divisions.
This was the second U19 world championship held under World Boxing’s auspices. Boxers from 69 national federations competed for 20 titles across ten men’s and ten women’s weight categories.
The inaugural edition took place in Pueblo, Colorado, in the United States, from October 26 to November 2, 2024.
In an October 11 pre-tournament Sportaran report, Armenia head coach Karen Aghamalyan said two boxers had been left out because the coaching staff considered them not yet ready for world-championship competition. He said expectations were high and the selected athletes were prepared, while cautioning that the competition itself would determine the outcome.
Aghamalyan also identified Budva as the final major youth tournament for five squad members. He urged those boxers to finish that stage of their careers on a high note.

The appeal tribunal removed an additional suspended spectator ban, but each club must still play its next home Scottish Cup tie without fans and pay the visiting side £100,000.
