Gunfire damages tents in Rafah and reportedly injures people, UN says

A humanitarian NGO left the area after the November 3 gunfire, interrupting flood-control work ahead of the rainy season, the UN aid coordination office said.

Gunfire damaged several tents at a displacement site in northern Rafah, Gaza, on 3 November and reportedly caused injuries, the UN aid coordination office said in a November 4 update. It did not give an injury count.

The gunfire forced a humanitarian NGO to leave the area, the office said. The organization had been working to control flooding ahead of the rainy season; the update did not say when it might resume the work.

On the same day, small-arms fire was reported near a UN-contracted facility in Deir al Balah and close to a UN-organized convoy in Rafah. No injuries to UN staff or damage were reported in those incidents, UN News said.

Shelter and child protection assistance

In the last week of October, the UN and its partners supported more than 70 households that had lost shelters and belongings in incidents ranging from airstrikes to domestic fires.

During the same week, child protection partners reached nearly 4,500 children and more than 2,000 caregivers with mental health and psychosocial support. They separately identified almost 200 children who needed individually tailored support, including 20 who were unaccompanied or separated from their families and 17 who were injured.

Partners also provided autumn-clothing vouchers for more than 1,000 children without parental care. Follow-up support continues for more than 2,000 children identified earlier as needing individually tailored help.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said civilians, including humanitarian workers, must be protected and civilian objects, including humanitarian facilities and vehicles, must be spared.
