Amazon opens Echo Show 16 preorders in five-device refresh

A larger, slimmer Echo Show

The Show 16 has a 16-inch Full HD screen. Amazon says it offers 10 percent more viewing area than the Show 15 in a body nearly 40 percent thinner. The nanomatte option uses an etched surface to reduce reflections while preserving detail and colour.

Engadget saw the thinner body at Amazon’s demonstration. Its favourable assessment of the glare-reducing treatment came from reviewing the earlier Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, rather than testing the Show 16.

Amazon says the Show has 20 percent more computing power than its predecessor. Eight small woofers and two tweeters—the speakers that handle lower and higher sounds—are intended to make calls and television dialogue clearer in noisy rooms. Its wide-angle 13-megapixel camera has Amazon’s widest Echo Show field of view. Visual ID, the facial-recognition feature used to personalise the display, works from up to 17 feet away rather than eight feet, the company says.

The camera adds night vision, and a button disables the camera and microphones. The display can serve as a television with an included remote, a photo frame, a home-control dashboard or a family organiser showing schedules and tasks.

Amazon introduced Alexa+ in February 2025. The company says the assistant can generate interactive shopping comparisons on the Show 16 and save conversations in topic-based Cards for users to revisit. Those interactive responses and Cards require Prime membership or a separate Alexa+ subscription.

Dot adds connections; Studio adds a camera

Amazon says the Dot’s custom AZ3 chip handles superintelligence (SI) voice processing on the device, reducing the need to send commands to a data centre and allowing more natural Alexa+ conversations. A fourth microphone and updated noise reduction are intended to improve voice pickup. The Dot also offers 50 percent more bass than the previous generation.

The Dot connects compatible home devices through Zigbee, Matter and Thread, three smart-home connection standards. Its Wi-Fi extension feature works with an existing eero router network; it does not provide that network by itself.

The camera-equipped Studio costs $30 more than the retained camera-free model. Amazon says its camera shows the area in front of the speaker through live video in the Alexa app and does not record footage. Alexa+ can answer questions about visible objects, such as a board-game box, while face and voice recognition personalise responses.

The Studio retains the camera-free model’s woofer and three full-range speakers. Amazon says its room-adaptation feature adjusts sound for the room’s acoustics and occupants, while adaptive volume responds to the listener’s position. Engadget also saw the Studio make a video call at Amazon’s demonstration, with the other participants displayed on a connected television.

A bedside clock and a connected photo frame

Echo Time has no camera. Amazon says an ultrasonic sensor, which uses high-frequency sound, can detect sleep. The clock can use light to begin waking someone during lighter sleep, between 10 and 60 minutes before their requested wake-up time.

The Kids Echo Dot includes a year of Amazon Kids+, with children’s audiobooks, ad-free music, podcasts and Sleep Studio wind-down content. Kids Echo Time also includes Sleep Studio, a year of Kids+ and child-focused clock faces. Parents can manage the child’s Echo Time.

The Alexa Photo Frame has a 10-inch touchscreen, built-in Alexa+ and Amazon Photos integration. Amazon says pictures sync automatically, and users can ask the assistant to select photos. Users can also add voice notes to photos. Unlimited Amazon Photos storage is a Prime membership benefit.

Amazon plans a Home Map preview later in 2026

Alexa Home Map remains a planned preview, rather than a feature launching alongside the hardware already on sale. Amazon says its three-dimensional home plan will place lights, speakers and other connected devices where they sit, letting users control them by location instead of finding their names in a list.

Setup calls for entering an address, scanning the interior with a compatible iPhone using LiDAR—a sensor that measures distance with light—and placing devices on the resulting map. Amazon says the preview will begin later in 2026 in the Alexa Home Map app on iOS. The Alexa and Ring apps are also slated to support it, alongside the Echo Show 16, Alexa tablets and Ember Artline Fire TV. An Amazon spokesperson said Android support is planned for early 2027.
