Amy Madigan has joined Viola Davis in the forthcoming Paramount+ thriller Ascent, Deadline said on October 26. Madigan will play Rachel, a former executive at the fictional Ascent Ventures and a lifelong mentor to Davis’s character, Catriona.
Madigan won her first Oscar earlier in 2026 for playing the villain Aunt Gladys in Weapons.
Ascent centres on Catriona, a corporate fixer who handles crises for clients worth billions of dollars. When her estranged daughter is in danger, Catriona must turn the ruthless skills she uses at work to protecting her.
Paramount Television Studios is producing the series. Deadline gives inconsistent creator credits: it describes Ascent as coming from John Logan, but later names “Kogan” as creator and showrunner—the person overseeing the series—without giving a first name.
Production is planned for 2027 in Los Angeles.
