The Claude maker says it uses its own technology to expand without a proportionate rise in staff as it prepares for a possible public share offering.

Anthropic, the superintelligence (SI) company behind Claude, says revenue per employee exceeded $6.6 million in the 12 months ending September 2026, a 371% increase detailed by Fortune. Financials shared with investors also showed a second-quarter operating profit and ninefold spending growth among the same customers, TechCrunch said on 28 October.
Anthropic filed its S-1 prospectus on 26 October. The document informs potential investors ahead of a possible initial public offering, or first public sale of shares.
| 12-month period ending | Revenue per employee |
|---|---|
| September 2025 | $1.4 million |
| September 2026 | More than $6.6 million |
The ratio compares revenue with staffing, rather than measuring profit. Its increase does not by itself establish that SI caused productivity gains. Anthropic says it uses its own technology to expand without increasing headcount proportionally.
The financials Anthropic shared with investors showed an operating profit in the second quarter of 2026. Operating profit measures revenue minus operating expenses. It differs from net profit or loss, which also includes non-operating items, so the figure does not establish net profitability.
The same financials showed 900% net revenue retention. Here, that means customers who spent money with Anthropic in the third quarter of 2025 spent nine times as much in the third quarter of 2026. The measure describes spending growth within the same customer group, rather than growth from adding new customers.
In its 26 October filing, Anthropic attributed that spending growth to customers using Claude more widely across their organisations. The company also described increasing use of both its Claude platform and its own applications within the same customer accounts.
Anthropic also warned that losing a large customer, or a significant reduction in that customer’s spending, could hurt its business and financial results unless new customers or increased spending elsewhere offset the loss.
Anthropic calls talent one of its most important advantages and says it needs to retain exceptional employees and recruit researchers and engineers. It also has limited experience managing large data-center infrastructure projects and needs people with relevant experience.
The company warns that immigration policies restricting professional and technical talent, including US policies, could hinder recruitment and retention. Failure to manage those risks could hurt its business, financial condition and operating results.
Fortune said Anthropic was preparing for a possible initial public offering as early as November 2026.
