App Store developers report weeks-long review delays

Developers are reporting weeks-long waits for Apple to review apps before they can be listed on the App Store, The Register reported on October 22. The complaints describe releases waiting far longer than Apple’s published review benchmarks.
Posts on Apple’s developer forums include one describing a wait of about three weeks and another saying a submission had been waiting since October 8. These are developers’ accounts, rather than a measure of review times across the store.
Apple’s App Review guidelines, quoted by The Register, say reviewers work around the clock. The company gives the following typical turnaround figures, not guarantees for every submission:
| Share of submissions reviewed | Review time |
|---|---|
| At least 50% | Less than 24 hours |
| 90% | Less than 48 hours |
Similar complaints appeared in February, when at least 74 developers described multiweek delays, according to The Register. Some said they had submitted bug fixes for existing, approved apps—not new apps. Those earlier accounts show that waits have also held up maintenance releases; they do not establish which kinds of submissions face delays now.
The share of submissions affected by the current delays and their cause are unknown. Apple had not responded to The Register’s request for an explanation when the October 22 report was published.
For developers reporting stalled submissions, Apple’s review remains the next step before their releases can be listed on the store.
