Apple raises MacBook Neo’s US education price to $649
The $50 increase halves the discount against the unchanged $699 standard starting price, leaving eligible education buyers with a $50 saving.

Apple has raised the MacBook Neo’s US education starting price from $599 to $649, 9to5Mac said, citing Macworld. The increase follows a $100 rise in June that affected both education and standard prices.
The new price is already in place on Apple’s US online education store. MacRumors said on October 28 that the change had taken effect within the preceding week. The standard starting price remains $699.
Two increases since the March launch
| Period | Education | Standard | Education saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| March launch | $499 | $599 | $100 |
| June increase | $599 | $699 | $100 |
| October increase | $649 | $699 | $50 |
Apple has attributed its broader price increases this year to a memory-chip shortage that significantly raised the cost of working memory and storage chips, MacRumors said. The reason for the latest education-only increase remains unclear.
Who qualifies for the education price
The education price is available to college students, educational staff and other eligible groups. Buyers must verify their eligibility through UNiDAYS, the verification service Apple expanded to the US in May.
