A formal order confirms the previously tentative trial date and sets deadlines for Apple, OpenAI and the other defendants to exchange evidence and prepare for court.

Judge Edward Davila has formally set July 19, 2027, at 9 a.m. for the trial in Apple’s trade-secret lawsuit against OpenAI, io Products and two former Apple employees, 9to5Mac said. The order gives the parties a court-set timetable for gathering evidence and preparing the case.
July 19 had been a tentative trial date at an October 14 case-management conference. Davila then instructed the parties to agree on a proposed schedule and submit it by October 23. The new order formally establishes the trial date and the deadlines leading up to it.
Apple accuses the defendants of improperly accessing or using confidential information about its products and technologies to advance OpenAI’s consumer hardware development. Those are Apple’s allegations; the scheduling order sets out how the case will proceed, rather than deciding them.
Davila also recently granted Apple access to additional documents and information from the defendants ahead of the normal discovery process—the stage when parties gather and exchange evidence.
The schedule sets deadlines for producing documents, completing evidence gathering and preparing for trial.

The lead lawyers must meet by June 1, 2027, to discuss a possible settlement, preparation of joint pretrial filings and clarification or narrowing of contested trial issues. 9to5Mac described the settlement discussion as a common procedural step in federal civil lawsuits. The requirement does not establish that Apple and OpenAI are considering a settlement or conducting settlement negotiations.
The next deadline is November 2, 2026, for the parties to exchange electronically stored information.
